President Julie’s Page

Welcome to members and guests this evening as we make the transition into our new Chapter year.  I appreciate your support this past year as your President and look forward to working together with our incoming slate of officers.

This meeting is our traditional working meeting to sign up, work and plan with the committees that we will offer our time and support to over this next year.  I’ve listed in this bulletin those committees for your information (if you have not already chosen), along with our present Standing Rules that will need to be reviewed for adoption again this coming year.

I am thankful for the friendship and support we share together as members of the American Business Women’s Association.

Sincerely, President Julie

ABWA Sterling Chapter General Membership Meeting Minutes

July 1, 2010

President Julie welcomed 13 members and seven guests to the Sterling Chapter General Membership Meeting beginning 6:20 p.m. at N.H. Scheppers Distributing Company.

The Invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance were led by Reta. A patriotic reading “Love America”, was given by vice president Joyce.

The self-introductions “ice breaker” was to name a favorite summer TV program or talk about our plans for July 4th.   A dinner of sub sandwiches, veggies and delicious desserts were consumed.

Theresa introduced our featured speaker, Laura Kempker, a Kindergarten teacher at Lawson Elementary in Jefferson City. Mrs. Kempker found her special interest in education at an early age.  She has obtained a degree in Early Childhood Development and a Masters in School Administration.  Laura shared a reading of “Pete the Cat” (and his white shoes). It combines entertainment and learning experiences all in one.  Mrs. Kempker will begin her 7th year of teaching Kindergarten and also directs the school’s show choir. She emphasized to be prepared, plan well, give more than is expected and keep walking along and sing a song no matter what.  She noted receiving a kind word from parents is appreciated.

Stacey preceded her introduction of three of the 2010 Education Scholarship recipients with her perspective of ABWA Sterling Chapter as a unique group that helps others. Scholarships were awarded to Laura Ross, Monica Kliethermes, and Christine Otten. The fourth scholarship recipient, Jennifer Heard was unable to be present.

President Julie gave a brief overview and history of the American Business Women’s Association. She highlighted that September 22 is National ABWA Day, which is celebrated annually. Sterling Chapter was chartered during the 25th anniversary of Nationals.  Julie’s vocational talk included events for youth coordinated by the Diocese and she mentioned that through these vocation events seeds are planted for future growth.

President Julie conducted the business meeting.  A motion made by Bev and seconded by vice president Joyce to accept the July 2010 General Membership Meeting Minutes was approved.  A motion made by Reta and seconded by Theresa to accept the August 2010 treasurer’s report was approved. There was no correspondence to read and chapter members were reminded of the SMRF account availability.

Helen reported that Council of Clubs is adjourned until the September Tea. The Auditing Committee of Denise and Carriette will review the Treasurer’s books and report to group next month. Cindy has some RADA orders and is still accepting others. Pamela requested items for the ABWA historian scrapbook. Bev was the “Mystery Woman” this month. Please give more “mystery” Newsletter items to Bev.

The next meeting is scheduled for August 5, 2010 at N. H. Scheppers Distributing Co.  Reta led the Benediction.

Vice president Joyce drew names for Patriotic Tea light holders given as door prizes. Thanks to the Hospitality Committee for all of their preparations each month.

Respectfully submitted, Secretary Beth
