Welcome to guests and members to our February meeting where we celebrate Citizenship Month.  I especially want to recognize our guest speaker this evening, the Honorable Carl Vogel, our State Senator. Plans are going well as we approach our upcoming Craft Sale and Chili Luncheon to be held February 27, 2010 at the Eagles Club.  Thank you to all members who put many hours in the planning for our main fundraising event of the year. I’m delighted to hear that Helen and Carriette will be back with us at this meeting.   I am thankful for the friendship we share as members of Sterling Chapter.  Sincerely, Julie Wieberg, President

Sterling Chapter General Membership Meeting Minutes:  January 14, 2010

President Julie W., welcomed 11 members to the Sterling Chapter General Membership Meeting, beginning 6:00 p.m. @ Yen Ching restaurant.

The Invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance were led by Julie W. There was no guest speaker as the original meeting date was rescheduled due to inclement weather.

Joyce R. gave her vocational talk beginning with her jobs in her youth.   She highlighted a few of her many talents from agriculture, shoe factory sewing and lacing machine operator, doctor’s secretary and office manager to City Hall and  Highway Patrol.   Joyce married her sweetheart, LeRoy, became a mother and a grandmother.  All of this intermingled with some location changes and return to Jefferson City.   We learned that she has a love for our feathered friends too, as her identity was revealed via the chapter’s newsletter January “Mystery Woman” AKA: Bird Lady.

President Julie W., President conducted the business meeting. Secretary Beth R. read a thank you card from Helen B. A motion was made by Beverly F. and seconded by Barbara C. to accept both November 5th and December 3rd General Membership meeting minutes.   Everyone approved this motion. Beverly F. made a motion to approve the treasurer’s report as presented.  Pamela K. seconded this motion and General Membership approved it.

Joyce R. and Carriette F. will attend the Council of Clubs January 25th meeting at Capital Plaza Hotel. There was nothing to report by the Education/Scholarship Committee for the Membership Committee.  Joyce R. will get flowers or a plant for Carriette F. Another member, Pamela K. is accepting items for the ABWA historian scrapbook.  National ABWA sent a 25th anniversary pin to Beverly F.  Congratulations!!

Our craft sale, chili luncheon and bake sale will be February 27th at the Eagles Lodge.  Gala M. reported vendor applications were mailed, news ads regarding available booth space were running in January.  Five booths have been sold thus far. RADA products will be offered for sale also.  Cindy W. will be replenishing inventory and take RADA orders.   Barbara C. submitted request to have ad on Coca Cola Board.   She has contacted other media, including the Rural Missouri Magazine.   Bee Seen Signs company will update banner.    It was suggested that Sterling Chapter give Bee Seen Signs a thank you gift of a framed ABWA logo.   General Membership approved of the suggestion as well as two free tickets to the chili luncheon.    Members present committed to distribute or post ad flyers which Barbara had prepared.    Luncheon tickets were distributed to members to sell. Ruth C. had a work schedule signup sheet.   Julie W. will get a snack for vendors.  She will contact Jeremy at the Eagles Lodge to review details of supplies available and what is needed.

Theresa B. and Barbara C. gave a report regarding Sterling Chapter’s Christmas  adoption of a senior citizen via the Samaritan Center.    They shopped for gifts, wrapped and delivered them.   The recipient sincerely appreciated everything.   Many thanks, Theresa and Barbara, for taking the time to be Santa’s helpers on our behalf.

It was announced that National’s Spring Conference is April 16th and 17th.  The “mystery woman” was Joyce R.   Please give more  “mystery” Newsletter items to Beverly F.  Our next meeting will be February 4, 2010 at Bones Restaurant. Julie W. led the Benediction.

 Respectfully submitted, Beth R., Secretary

INVOCATION

Lord, in the quiet of this hour,

we come to thee for wisdom and for power,

to view thy world through only love-filled eyes,

to grow in understanding, to be wise,

and sure to see thy guiding light, and thus

to know each other as thou knowest us.  Amen

BENEDICTION

Oh guiding spirit, guardian of our days,

be with us as we go our separate ways.

Help us to feel those thoughts that lift and bless,

to know a closer bond of friendliness,

to see thy beauty always – every day,

translated into living – this we pray. Amen
